Summermoon boasts that they sell the only wood fired coffee in Austin. They brew organic, fair-trade coffee. They heat the coffee with fire, a method — they point out — that doesn’t use electricity or fossil fuels. They also sell paninis, soups, lunch combos, pastries, and empanadas.

Situated so close to campus, a great deal of studying goes on at JP’s. The place is well lighted with soft music and many furrowed brows, sprawling books, and open laptops. Pastries, muffins, sandwiches, fruit cups, and bagels compliment the coffee and espresso selections.

Dominican Joe has an interesting mission: they purchase most of their coffee from Markarlos, an Austin-based nonprofit that supports farmers in the Dominican Republic by paying them higher wages for their product and helping their communities develop skills to better sustain themselves.
