The sister of Clementine’s Coffee, things are run just as well at this coffeehouse. They picked an area of town that really needed a coffeehouse. In addition to coffee and espresso they serve paninis as well as cold sandwiches. Their iced coffees are actually cold brewed – a process that takes about twelve hours – so you know they care. They also have local beers on tap and wine for sale.

Summermoon boasts that they sell the only wood fired coffee in Austin. They brew organic, fair-trade coffee. They heat the coffee with fire, a method – they point out – that doesn’t use electricity or fossil fuels. They also sell paninis, soups, lunch combos, pastries, and empanadas.
Rio Rita describes their establishment as “a mild mannered coffee shop by day, swanky lounge by night.” They host a number of art shows and live music events. But it’s also just a cool place to hang out. They serve sandwiches, vegetarian wraps, pizza from East Side Pies. They serve a blend of Ethiopian, Sumatran, Guatemalan, Peruvian and Nicaraguan Certified Organic Fair Trade Coffee. They sell it by the cup and the pound. They also sell beer, wine, and champagne.
Pacha is a chill establishment on Burnet. In addition to coffee, espresso, and tea, handmade foods like empanadas, soups, salads, and breakfast tacos are served. With two porches, it’s a great place to get some reading done. They do not have Wi-Fi.
Located fairly close to campus, La Tazza Fresca is in the same building with Groovy Lube. Along with people getting their cars worked on, you’ll find students and a good number of regulars. They serve coffee and espresso, beer and wine. You can also get sandwiches and appetizers.

Situated so close to campus, a great deal of studying goes on at JP’s. The place is well lighted with soft music and many furrowed brows, sprawling books, and open laptops. Pastries, muffins, sandwiches, fruit cups, and bagels compliment the coffee and espresso selections.
Fair Bean Coffee is fairly new on the South 1st scene. They serve French pressed coffee as well as drip – and espresso. They serve Latin food like empanadas, Spanish omelets, arepas, and desserts as well.

Dominican Joe has an interesting mission: they purchase most of their coffee from Markarlos, an Austin-based nonprofit that supports farmers in the Dominican Republic by paying them higher wages for their product and helping their communities develop skills to better sustain themselves. Dominican Joe’s serves coffee, espresso, tea, and pre-prepared sandwiches and wraps.

Cafe Medici is a coffee-lover’s coffeehouse. Their coffee is French pressed, served at the optimal temperature. They have a limited number of sandwiches for sale in a day. But the focus is mostly on the coffee and espresso. For example, they serve La Marzocco FB70 Hybrid espresso; their coffee is a blend comprised of beans from Colombian, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Brazil. They also offer whole bean coffee in ten to fifteen varieties of sustainable, fair-trade, organic beans.

Cafe Caffeine holds numerous events within their walls throughout the year. In addition to coffee and espresso they also stock foods from local vendors. On nights when they host events such as poetry slams, you can BYOB.
MonkeyWrench Books is a volunteer-run, collectively owned, non-profit bookstore. Not only that, it’s also a space for various community events.
Formed in 1976 by UT Students, the Wheatsville Co-op is now one of the most successful in the state of Texas, with over 8,000 members — and selling over $7 million in groceries a year.
Milto’s is a Mediterranean and Italian food restaurant close to the UT campus. The expansive menu touches on many traditional Greek meals, like the gyro, and moves into well-known favorites such as pizza and eggplant parmesan.
Chicago-style Pizza, Ken Kelly art, and cheap beer makes Conans Pizza one of the best deals around campus.
