Use ONLY when (1) naming major works or (2) using foreign-language phrases.
Examples:
- Virgil wrote The Aeneid.
- Sufjan Stevens’ album Illinois includes the track “Chicago.” (NOTE: Minor works are titled inside quotes.)
- The loudmouth will yammer on ad infinitum. (NOTE: Common foreign-language phrases such as “status quo” and “chile con carne” do NOT need italics.)
