Austin has a new 21-acre park and the city is letting the public come up with its name.
From the press release:
The City of Austin begins today, Sept. 10, 2007, the naming process for the recently opened 21-acre downtown park west of the Palmer Events Center between Riverside Drive and Barton Springs Road.
Today’s announcement begins a 90-day period for public discussion about possible names for the park which is south of Lady Bird Lake. The park, which opened Aug. 29, 2007, includes a pond, a fountain, trails and an observation hill with spectacular views of downtown.
The facilities naming ordinance allows the park to be named after an individual(s)(living or dead) or something other than an individual such as a place or natural feature.

Weed Park
LOL
So I saw they press release from the city referenced “town lake” with the new name “lady bird lake”. I hate lady bird lake. I don’t even understand the obsession with lady bird. She was married to the president woo hoo. Town Lake was a cool name. It made it sound like it was “our” lake. It had a nice feel to it. Anyway I think the park should be called “town lake park”.
