Funniest Person in Austin contest: The kick-off!
Has a year already gone by since Bryan Gutmann was crowned Funniest Person in Austin? Apparently so: Tonight is the first night of the Funniest Person in Austin contest at Cap City Comedy Club. Every Monday night until May 6 local comics will compete for a spot in the semi-finals, held May 12-13, and a winner will be chosen during the final round on May 19. Tonight’s show will be hosted by Brendon Walsh, one our favorite comedians ever. Hot fact: Honest to God artist and TOP contributor Joel Keith is one of the 17 comics competing tonight, and there’s only room for four people to move on to the semi-finals.

Ray Romano and Brad Garrett
If, since the end of Everybody Loves Raymond in 2005, you just haven’t been getting enough nasal whining or baritone inferiority complexes, you’ll be glad to know that your old friends Ray and Robert Barone — or at least the guys who played them — are coming to Austin. We don’t condone sneaking in a flask, but if you do, you can take a shot every time they mention cannoli, televised sports, or their mothers.

The Kids in the Hall
You may remember them from their 1989–1985 TV show: Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, and Scott Thompson are in Austin for two days of high-flying absurdist comedy, cross-dressing, and crushing one another with their fingers. This is the first night of their Austin engagement, so you’ll want to get your tickets before the shows sell out. And, believe us, they will.
