Love and a 45 Record Player Party
Here’s an old Monday night standby: You bring some records, you spin three songs, some hipsters judge you, and you order a Mayan mocha because it’s the best coffee drink on the planet. Then you work up the cojones to spin again. Hint: If you have to explain to people that it’s “ironic,” it’s probably not. Give up the ghost.

Itemize your mom File your taxes
Envision this action-packed night: Checking and double-checking your tax return. Sprinting to the post office before it’s too late. Waiting in line behind some smelly dude who’s just there to buy stamps or something. Wishing you had just dropped them in the mailbox yesterday. Building time machine to go back to yesterday. Realizing time machine is just two tin cans, some gum, and the fender of an old BMW.
File your taxes, everyone. The post offices on 6104 Old Fredericksburg Rd (Oak Hill), 3575 Far West Blvd, and 7310 Manchaca Rd are open until 7 daily.

National Karaoke League
The National Karaoke League was formed here in Austin this year by Whitney Francis and Chris Larkin, who call themselves “karaoke nerds.” The first division opened up with 41 members, and it’s growing strong with new leagues popping up in other cities. Tonight at the Bennigan’s on Barton Springs Rd you can see what they’re all about. From the NKL:
Join us each week to watch the passionate, talented, and sometimes just plain silly competitors in the National Karaoke League–Austin Division! In this comeptitive karaoke “league”, teams square off each week for audience approval across three rounds of fierce competition. Audience members get to vote for their favs and participate in between-round competitions such as “Karaoke Roulette” and “Rock Lobster Trivia” for their chance to win free stuff. This is not your average night at the karaoke bar, and it is not an event to be missed!
Note: You must be 21 or older to compete. Check out the NKL’s rules here.

Assassins
Assassins premiered Off-Broadway on December 18, 1990. The play is a musical that explores the psyches of assassins or would-be assassins in America. The play points out that both the assassins and the famous leaders they target are both products of identical cultural forces. It’s not a play for the provincial thinker.
