About Patsy’s Cowgirl Cafe

It’s hard to say what’s most impressive about Patsy’s Cowgirl Cafe. The gorgeous decor (with many paintings done by legendary comedian and Esther’s Follies player Kerry Awn), the awesome playground for the kids, or the fact that co-owner Shannon Sedwick never stops buzzing around the restaurant, helping in the kitchen, waiting tables, or seating patrons. Owned by Esther’s Follies co-founders Shannon Sedwick and Michael Shelton, Patsy’s Cowgirl Cafe is just what you’d expect from these two very creative and hardworking individuals – it’s fun, the staff is friendly and seems very happy, and dishes are named after Austinites like Kinky Friedman (smoked corned beef sandwich) and Clifford Antone (burger with bleu cheese). This is a great place to go if you have kids or you’re looking to dine in a very casual setting.

Live music at Patsy’s Cowgirl Cafe

Check out live music at Patsy’s Cowgirl Cafe Wednesday through Saturday nights. There’s never a cover, and the bands start playing at 8pm.

Last Wednesday my husband an I ventured out to eat and listen to music. While not knowing what to expect, nobody we know had gone there yet, we were ready to be surprised. Surprised we were. The ambience is nice, unfortunately I counted no more than 20 people at a time while having dinner there. Does this mean anything? Everyplace else we have gone to on a wednesday is usually packed. The music was good and fun to listen to but somehow with so few people to play to the place was quiet and seemed like not a happening place. Perhaps with time this place will catch on.
Equally important to me with the music is the food. My husband ordered the grilled portabello and said is was mediocre at best. I ordered to albacore tuna sandwich - I was truly dissapointed! A good portion of canned tuna mixed with mayo and other stuff was included in the sandwich. No sharp cheddar was in my sandwich but rather a piece of what seemd and tasted as plasticky american orange process cheese- ugh! The fries arrived lukewarm and wilted as if just warmed up. If I were to return to this place it would be to listen to a specific musician-for the food was not worth the price or quality. I expected a better sandwich and burger joint!
