About Gene’s
Everything is good here, and we mean everything. If you’re in the mood for home cookin’, Gene’s has plenty to choose from: smothered pork chops, poboys, cobbler, fried chicken, as well as daily specials under eight bucks.

I’m New Orleans born and raised, so I know what I’m talking about here. A roast beef po boy isn’t just roast beef on French bread. The secret is in the gravy. Gene’s pulls through almost 100%. I say almost because the bread is a baguette rather than New Orleans style French bread… but I don’t know if that’s even an option in Austin.
The rest of the menu is great, too. Pork chops are bone gnawing good. Red beans are true New Orleans. Other stuff is great. Never disapointed. Gene likes peanuts and Pepsi. I don’t know why.
And the staff is always always always way nice.
