Austin opens park naming to the public

Austin has another new park, and they’re letting the public name it, just like they did last November. (After a long dispute over whether the park should be named for the Butlers, who are the family who donated the land, or the activists who turned it into a park, Austin City Council decided to name it Butler Park.)

The new park is located downtown by the American Legion Travis Post 76 and the Hike and Bike Trail by Veterans Dr. west of Austin High School. Acceptable names for the park include living or dead individuals or something like a place or natural feature. (Naming a place after a place seems a little counterintuitive, but that’s what the press release says.)

The deadline is August 10th. Get more information here.
